Avery Shows Kindness

Avery has been living with her elderly aunt in a small town since she was five years old.   Her aunt loved her very much and took very good care of her. However, for the past  six years Avery has been very stubborn and was not obedient to her aunt.

One day while Avery was playing with her friends , her aunt asked her to take a break from playing and rake the leaves in the garden. Avery rolled her eyes and refused her aunt's request.

The next day, her aunt asked her to rake the leaves in the garden, but once again she refused. She turned to her Aunt and told her that she was not going to do it because she wanted to play with her friends.

Her  aunt  made the  same request one more day and received the same answer.  So she decided to do it herself and went to get the rake and bags from the shed. As she was walking towards the garden she felt ill. She turned to Avery and asked her to rake the leaves because she was not feeling well. Once again Avery refused.

Her aunt started to rake the leaves although she was not feeling well. After five minutes, Avery saw her aunt falling to the ground from exhaustion. Avery ran to her aunt and shouted for the neighbours to come. They rushed her to the hospital where she was admitted for one week.

During that week, Avery had time to do some reflection and realized that she had made a terrible mistake. She felt  ashamed of her behavior and decided to change her ways.

When her Aunt came home, Avery became much kinder to her and did whatever she  asked her to do. She knew her Aunt loved her and wanted the best for her. So she apologized for her past behaviour and promised to do better in the future.

Avery’s Aunt forgave her and told her she was proud that she took  responsibility for her behaviour. She also reminded her that God is the only one who can help her to have good behaviour as she cannot do it by herself. Her neighbours saw a huge change in Avery and they knew that she learned an important lesson about listening to people who loved and cared for her.

Children, it is very important that you obey your parents or guardians. The Bible said you will receive blessings from God if you do so. In the story, Avery learned a valuable lesson about obedience and that she has to trust God to help her be obedient.

Ephesians 6:1-3 says

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother , which is the first commandment with a promise,  so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.
